700 preschoolers celebrate Friendship Day
About 700 preschoolers from across the capital area gathered at Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo this morning, to celebrate connection and joy at Save The Children – Iceland's Friendship Day.
This marks the first time Save The Children – Iceland has hosted a dedicated Friendship Day — a celebratory milestone for children in the organization's Friendship Schools who are transitioning from preschool to primary school. Children from 31 preschools participated in the event, all sharing the distinction of attending designated Friendship Schools.

About 65% of preschools nationwide have received education and participated in Save The Children – Iceland's training programs, with the vast majority putting the Friendship initiative into practice over the 12 years since its launch. As a result, the children are highly familiar with the curriculum — especially Blær the plush toy, who made a life-sized debut at Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo this morning.
The children kicked off the day with an obstacle course, navigating a variety of activities tied to the program.
While making their way through the park, the groups stopped to visit the animals along the route. Everyone then gathered at the main stage, where they sang friendship songs and danced with Blær the plush toy.
The highlight of the day came when musician Páll Óskar took the stage to perform "Eitt af blómunum," a song about eradicating bullying at every stage of life.
